Tim Benjamin has been DJing for more than three decades already ! Buying 7″ singles in the ’70s, playing music at birthday parties and continually on the search for new sounds he became infected by dance music through TSOP (The Sound Of Philadelphia).
After standing in a couple of times for a friend at a small club in Duesseldorf/Germany in 1981 he got his first residency at famous Well´s Fargo Club in Amsterdam and that is where it all began.
Nowadays people would mark it as “the place to be” since legendary acts such as Sylvester, Divine, Patrick Cowley, Paul Parker and Sharon Redd had been frequent visitors. Influenced by Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, Gino Soccio, Patrick Cowley, Deodato, Dennis and Denise Lepage he started to concentrate on electronic dance music.
On his returning to Germany he became one of the pioneers of House Music, saying goodbye to R&B, Hip Hop, High Energy and Stock Aitken and Waterman-sounds. He worked as a freelance A&R for several record companies and was the first DJ who was allowed to produce officially released Megamixes (House Sound of Chicago, Easy Street, Trax Chicago), Remixes for Lil´ Louis, Farley Jackmaster Funk, House Master Boyz, Kraze, Two Tons of Fun, Sister Sledge and Gloria Gaynor followed. For personal reasons he left the DJ scene for some years but in 2009 he decided to work on his comeback and whoomp – there he is! He sold his Technics 1200 , bought CDJ 1000 and got his first gigs a few month later. After having several Guest Sets for “LIGHTWORKS” and being Artist of the Week in June 2010 at friskyradio he finally got his own show “encore” at friskyradio in february 2011. In 2013 h started working as A&R for Sound Avenue, 3rd Avenue and Crossfade sounds, in 2014 “encore” found a new homebase at Protonradio
